The CITRUS-ADAPT training materials continue to progress.
Over the coming weeks we will be sharing the main contents of the training programme we are developing to help agricultural technicians face the challenges posed by climate change in Mediterranean citrus farming.
We begin with one of the most advanced units of the project: the management of plant genetic resources in citrus.
Rising temperatures, water scarcity, and the emergence of new pests and diseases are testing the adaptive capacity of currently cultivated varieties. However, not all genotypes respond in the same way.
Through this unit, participants will learn to:
✔ Evaluate varieties and rootstocks under different climatic scenarios.
✔ Understand physiological mechanisms associated with tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress.
✔ Analyze resilience criteria for the selection of plant material.
✔ Learn about the latest advances in genetic improvement and new genomic tools applied to citrus cultivation.
Because adapting citrus farming to climate change also involves deciding what to plant and why.
This content is being jointly developed by the CITRUS-ADAPT partners with the aim of transferring practical and innovative knowledge to professionals in the Mediterranean citrus sector.
